By the end of the 3-day Institute, you will be well on your way to implementing a fully redesigned course in the Team-Based Learning (TBL) format. The August 2024 Institute is for instructors who will implement the Team-Based Learning approach beginning in Fall 2024. This TBL Institute will take you through the process of transforming a traditionally taught course into a Team-Based Learning course. Team-Based Learning is a comprehensive design strategy, developed by organizational behavior specialist Larry Michaelsen, for shifting your classroom into a dynamic community of highly motivated learners. It works effectively in both large and small classes, in both theoretical and applied courses, in all disciplines. A limited number of seats are available for guests (i.e., post-secondary educators not currently on the faculty or teaching staff of Vancouver Island University). Guest fees are $395.00 (CAD) which covers: two workshop days, Aug 13 and 15 (8:30 AM – 3:30 PM), including a light breakfast and lunch, consultations with TBL practitioners on August 14, and a copy of Getting Started with Team-Based Learning (Sibley and Ostafichuk). TBLI workshop participants can earn credit towards the Provincial Instructor Program (PIDP) at Vancouver Community College (VCC). VCC recognizes VIU’s TBLI workshop as Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) credit for the course ‘Collaborative Learning in the College Classroom’ (PIDP 3340).
