Everyone is welcome. ¶ What is identity? The purpose of this talk is to consider the role that disability plays in identity. We will reflect on identity and disability on a personal and communal level, by looking at philosophical authors such as Martin Heidegger, Martin Buber, Thornton Wilder, and others. Drawing on ideas of being, exploration, and self-actualization, and using his own story of growing up with a physical disability, Tagen Marshall strives to raise the questions, “What is identity? How is it discovered, and what does it really mean?” ¶ Tagen Marshall is an Honours Philosophy student whose research interests include existentialism and ancient Greek philosophy. He uses his experience within those traditions to make sense of his place and purpose in the world while living with a physical disability. He is excited not only to share what he has learned from philosophizing about disability, but also to hear about your experiences and ideas surrounding this topic. He will be joined by co-facilitator Robert Pepper-Smith, Honorary Research Associate in Philosophy. \n\n\nOff Campus \nVancouver Island Regional Library, Harbourfront branch\n90 Commerical St\nNanaimo BC V9R 5G4\n\nhttps://events.viu.ca/philosophy-cafe-featuring-tagen-marshallOff Campus falseaYqCFcQpUzxLBYhTummH26494
