Youth Privacy and Smart Voice Assistants: Evidence, Tensions, and Design Directions

Smart voice assistants are becoming routine in youth digital life, yet privacy controls often remain hard to understand and harder to use. We are pleased to welcome a researcher in privacy-focused AI. Dr. Shrestha will present findings from his Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canda’s funded research project on youth privacy in smart voice assistants (SVA). He will include insights from empirical analysis to highlight youth privacy perceptions and behaviors in SVA ecosystems, with practical implications for platform design, education, and governance.
