Join us for a public screening of The Encampments (Watermelon Pictures, 2025), a film focused on Columbia University's student encampments for Gaza. A discussion will follow featuring Dr. Warren Heiti, Students for Palestine committee members Sara Kishawi and Zena Kishawi, and lawyer Noah Ross.
Panelists will address how specific acts of protest challenge our imaginations to make the world anew. Panelists will be asked to consider risks, opportunities, and struggles of mobilization for Palestine (and beyond), taking into consideration the university campus as an historic site of struggle for social justice, protest, and free speech. All are welcome.
Moderated by: Dr. Melissa Stephens (Chair of VIUFA WAGE committee, 2026-2027)
This event is co-hosted by VIU Faculty Association’s Women’s and Gender Equity Committee, VIU Muslim Women’s Club, and Students for Palestine Committee.
