This school year marks the 50th Anniversary of post-secondary education and training in the qathet Regional District.
To celebrate 50 years of learning, we are throwing a birthday celebration and the entire community is invited! In addition to food and refreshments there will be program demonstrations, entertainment, games (including a scavenger hunt and a bouncy castle), special guests, birthday cake and prizes galore.
We hope you will join us in celebrating our anniversary as we look forward to the next 50 years of learning in our community.
Our campus began its journey as Malaspina College in 1974 running Adult Basic Education classes out of a small office on Marine Drive. From there we moved to the Centennial Building, and then in 1983, we moved into our current building on Nootka Street. In 2022, following the gifting of a new name by Tla'amin Nation Executive Council, we became VIU tiwšɛmawtxʷ, which means "House of Learning."
