Trade Talk with Hilary Peach - Thick Skin: Field Notes from a Sister in the Brotherhood

SEATS ARE LIMITED TO 70 - first come first serve.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear from boilermaker, artist, and award-winning author Hilary Peach, who will be joining us for an insightful talk on Friday, November 29, 2024 2:30-3:45pm in Building 180 Room 134! A trailblazer in the trades and an advocate for inclusivity, Hilary talks about raising the profile of women in trades and championing safety and equity across the industry. Her work sheds light on how we can further improve the safety and well-being of industrial environments, and while the past two decades have seen progress, Hilary reminds us there’s still room for growth. Her insights align perfectly with both the BC Centre for Women in the Trades (BCCWITT)’s goals and our Trades and Applied Technology plan’s commitment to fostering safe, inclusive learning spaces.

For twenty years award-winning trades author Hilary Peach worked as a transient welder for the Boilermakers Union, Local 359, travelling across Canada and the United States. She worked in shipyards, pulp mills, chemical plants, refineries, and generating stations, and in 2022 released a memoir about this time, Thick Skin: Field Notes from a Sister in the Brotherhood (Anvil Press).Peach has a collection of poetry, BOLT (Anvil Press 2019), and now works as a welding inspector and a Boiler Safety Officer for Technical Safety BC.
