Recreation Summit 2026

Building Healthy Communities Through Recreation, Arts & Humanities

What role can recreation, arts and the humanities play in creating healthier, more connected communities?

Join us for the 2026 Recreation Summit: Building Healthy Communities Through Recreation, Arts & Humanities, a two-day gathering exploring the powerful connections between recreation, health, belonging, culture and community.

Through engaging presentations, interactive sessions and community conversations, speakers and participants will explore a wide range of perspectives — from reconciliation, accessibility and social prescribing to loneliness and connection, food and plants as medicine, narrative medicine, arts and culture, community infrastructure, and equitable access to recreation.

The Summit brings together students, researchers, recreation professionals, health practitioners and community leaders to share ideas, challenge assumptions and explore how recreation, arts and the humanities can contribute to healthier, more inclusive and connected communities.

One-day and two-day registration options are available. Advance registration is required.

Hosted by the World Leisure Centre of Excellence at Vancouver Island University.
