Please join in to celebrate Doug Stetar’s retirement on Thursday, December 16th, 5-7pm in the Lobby of the Malaspina Theatre (Building 310, Room 201). Doug began his career at then Malaspina University-College in 1999 working with Information Technology and Applied Systems (ITAS) and then joined the Media Studies Department in 2005. He taught courses on pop culture, digital media, gaming, global media, comics, and anime. In 2018, Doug was a recipient of a Provost Award for excellence in teaching and design. A champion of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning, in 2010 Doug collaborated with the English Department to create a new model of interdisciplinary studies course, later adopted by several programs, and he co-taught INTR 100 and 101 based on this model during the last decade of his career. Doug served as Chair of the Media Studies Department and Director of the Media Research Lab. He was instrumental in the initial filming and recording of the Arts and Humanities Colloquium and an active participant in the Literary Theory Research Group, facilitating collaboration with the Media Research Lab.
