The Parents' Rights Movement: Assumptions and Impacts
Join us for a thought-provoking evening, where we’ll explore the topic of the parents' rights movement. This discussion will unpack questions about the balance between parental authority, children’s rights, and the role of educational institutions in shaping young minds. We'll consider the motivations behind the movement, the impact on youth (especially those who identify as 2SLGBTQ+), and what this debate reveals about broader societal values. No prior knowledge required — just bring an open mind and a willingness to engage in respectful dialogue. ¶ This Philosophy Café will be facilitated by KJ Reed. KJ Reed is a Professor in Studies in Women and Gender and a librarian at Vancouver Island University. Their research focuses on privacy and surveillance in the lives of trans and non-binary youth.
