Orange Shirt Day at tiwšɛmawtxw campus

In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day), Vancouver Island University tiwšɛmawtxw campus invites all students and staff to a series of campus events on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Join us in the library at 10 am for a special presentation by the Tla’amin Land and Resources department, featuring local history, knowledge sharing and storytelling. Following the presentation, please join us in Room 148 at 11:30 am for a complimentary soup and bannock lunch open to all staff and students. If you would like, you can also take part in a traditional cedar brushing.

Other events happening throughout the day:

• Film screening: The film Namesake will be screening all day in the library.
• Reflection wall: Visit the library to share what Truth and Reconciliation means to you. Write your thoughts on a paper "orange shirt" and post it on the wall.
• VIUSU giveaways: Enter your name and VIU email address at the reflection wall for a chance to win daily prizes from local businesses and tickets to the 3 Ears Indigenous Film Festival at the Patricia Theatre. Draws will take place daily from September 24 to 29 (limit one entry per student, courtesy of the Vancouver Island University Students' Union).
