As part of VIU's commitment to supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's 94 Calls to Action, and Indigenous people in their healing journey from the impacts of the residential school system in Canada, the Cowichan campus will be hosting Orange Shirt Day events on Tuesday, September 29.
Orange Shirt Day is a time for learning, reflection and solidarity, honouring residential school Survivors and remembering the children who never returned home.
The day will include cultural ceremonies and performances, a guest speaker, Q'ushin'tul (Walking Together), and a feast. We encourage you to wear orange to show your support and stand in unity with Indigenous communities.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend throughout the day and encourage students to participate in the day's events.
