Baynes Sound – Signs of Life, Signs of Change Open House  

Thursday June 25, 2026 - 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  

Vancouver Island University's Deep Bay Marine Field Station welcomes the public for an afternoon of celebrating the launch of an exciting research knowledge mobilization project, Baynes Sound – Signs of Life, Signs of Change.  Funded by MEOPAR, the Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network, Baynes Sound- Signs of Life, Signs of Change highlights marine science research happening in Baynes Sound in ways that make it accessible for all.  

Join us at the open house for a sneak peak of the many ways we are bringing ongoing research to you!  Check out our new interactive website, map and samples of shoreline signage, live Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) data stream, K-12 educational resources, interactive 3D Model and presentations, displays and activities by project partners and collaborators.   

Thank you to our valued partners BC Shellfish Growers Association, Qualicum First Nation, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Kelp Rescue Initiative, Ocean Networks Cananda, and to collaborators K’omoks First Nation, Humpback Whales of the Salish Sea, the Marine Education and Research Society, Pacific Salmon Foundation and the UVic Spectral Lab.
