Earthquake preparation is important for everyone in our region, a seismically active zone, so all of VIU’s campuses participate. The annual Great British Columbia Shake Out earthquake and evacuation drill is October 17, from 9:45 am to 10:05 am
Faculty and staff are being asked for their support for this important exercise and no critical operations (such as exams) should be scheduled during this 20-minute period.

The drill includes a test of all VIU emergency mass notification systems: fire alarm voice system (Nanaimo Campus (including VIU residence) only), Alertus, VIU Safety App, website and social media.
