The Media Studies department will host a FREE screening of Fortescue on Wednesday, February 5th, 7-9pm in the Malaspina Theatre. All are welcome.
Director Rebecca Love and some of the cast will be in attendance for Q&A after the show, so expect conversation about the film industry and production process!
Fortescue touches on the complexity of female friendship, performance of womanhood under the male gaze vs the female gaze, depictions of women in the Western cannon, the connection between psychosis and theatre, a subversion of the ‘male saviour’ narrative, the loneliness of illness, the interplay of misogyny / sexual violence / domestic violence and psychosis, a big statement about caregiving—who will be there for us in times of need?
Rebeccah Love is a 34 year old disabled independent filmmaker from Toronto who holds a BFA in Film Production from TMU and an MFA in Creative Screenwriting from the University of Guelph.
Lead Actor Chelsea Preston is a non-binary and queer artist who grew up on Vancouver Island and has TV credits including Station Eleven, What We Do in the Shadows, and Frankie Drake Mysteries.
Lead Actor Kelsey Falconer is a 29 year old queer artist who holds an acting degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has TV credits including the Handmaid's Tale and Fargo.
Lead Actor Tyson Coady grew up in Vancouver; his credits include a role in The Boyz alongside music, art, and marketing work.
