This initiative puts thousands of new K-12 books in the hands of readers in public schools and libraries, literacy and multicultural societies, women's shelters, day care centres, after-school clubs and other not-for-profits, especially those serving children and youth from families in need. More than 18,000 books will be donated for this event from Penguin Random House, Tundra, Disney, Hachette, and Macmillan. To participate, people need to register as a FBC member (free) online www.fbmpcanada.org/register and make clear that they serve primarily low-income families, new immigrants, children from First Nations communities or youth with special needs. Once registered, sign up for the event itself at https://firstbook.wufoo.com/forms/zbg8z3j13go66z/. You must register by June 26. Registrants will receive a confirmation email with the address of the VIU cafeteria where the event is taking place, the free parking in Lot F just outside Building 300, and the time to come and select titles (250+ per person) on either June 29 or 30. There is no cap on how many individuals can sign up from any qualifying public school or organization.   Space may still be available after the June 26 registration date. To see if you can still sign up, please email Joy.Gugeler@viu.ca. Gugeler worked with Luke Bateman of the VIU Bookstore and Michael Taylor in Food Services to arrange for the space and she will be at the event each day with 6-10 student volunteers, helping people select titles, carry them to the car and answer questions. These people will then disseminate the books to children they serve in search of their own first books.   First Book Canada is a not-for-profit organization that provides Canadian children with equal access to quality education. It works with large book publishers who generously donate millions of new books every year which they distribute through the FBC network. They are excited to be hosting their first event in Nanaimo after many years of holding events in Vancouver.  \n\n\nNanaimo Campus Building Building 300 Room Upper Cafeteria\n\nhttps://events.viu.ca/first-book-canada-free-pop-book-eventNanaimo Campus Building Building 300 Room Upper CafeteriafalseaYqCFcQpUzxLBYhTummH26494
