WIL Coffee and Learn: GenAI and the Workplace

October 1 2025, 9 - 10:30 am

Dear VIU Faculty and Staff,

That time of year has come again, and CEWIL (our national organization for WIL) has put together some amazing webinars on a variety of career and WIL-related topics. We will be hosting 6 viewing parties with coffee and snacks in Building 255, Rm 205 over September, October, and November. See below for a description of the workshop topic:

GenAI

Preparing students for ethical and effective use in the workplace

Generative AI (GAI) is reshaping workplace communication and workflows, offering powerful tools for efficiency and creativity. From content creation to ideation, GAI can ease mental load and enhance productivity. However, its use raises important concerns-unrefined outputs may undermine trust and authenticity, and over-reliance can weaken critical thinking, empathy, and self-awareness.

This session explores how educators, WIL program leaders, and workplace supervisors can help students harness GAI's potential while navigating its risks. Drawing on research with early adopters in small businesses and non-profits, the session examines GAI's dual nature-its transformative benefits and the ethical, relational, and practical challenges it presents.

These sessions are normally $50 each, but they are free for those attending the viewing party.
