FUSION

Dear VIU Faculty and Staff,

That time of year has come again, and CEWIL (our national organization for WIL) has put together some amazing webinars on a variety of career and WIL-related topics. We will be hosting 6 viewing parties with coffee and snacks in Building 255, Rm 205 over September, October, and November. See below for a description of the workshop topic:

FUSION: An inclusive skills development curriculum

The FUSION initiative is a flexible, online, integrated learning experience designed to enhance student skill development in areas critical life, learning, and work. This presentation will outline how the FUSION skills development initiative is a valuable, inclusive, and accessible intervention that supports undergraduate students to successfully complete their studies and subsequently engage in active roles where they can leverage their skills and knowledge as they engage with and respond to diverse societal needs and challenges.

The range of FUSION skills development modules includes adaptability, communication, inclusivity, problem-solving, metacognition, collaboration, self-management, AI literacy, digital literacies, and constructive dialogue, with more modules being built during 2025. By analysing student interviews, and survey data and reflective workbooks, we found that students not only developed their skills, but they increased their awareness of the need to continue to develop these skills and expand skills development into other areas. In our presentation, we will provide an outline of the FUSION Initiative, share how each module is built with accessibility at the forefront, and share how FUSION modules are flexible, and ideally suited to support experiential learning experiences.
