Dispersed Teacher Education Program Info Session

February 3 2026, 4 - 4:30 pm

VIU’s Faculty of Education is launching a new teacher education program in August 2026. Graduates of the Dispersed Teacher Education Program (DTEP) earn an elementary focused (K–7) Bachelor of Education, allowing them to apply for a B.C. Professional Teaching Certificate as is required to teach in Canada’s public and independent school systems.

This 3-year hybrid program is designed for mature students who work in a K–12 school or who live in a remote area and wish to train to be an elementary teacher. Those who work in K–12 schools maintain their employment while completing coursework, as synchronous online classes are scheduled on weekday evenings and weekends.

During the first two years of the program, students must be able to be travel and stay in Nanaimo, BC to attend two-weeks of in-person classes during August and March.

To learn more, register for an upcoming webinar hosted by DTEP Program Chair Dr. Liana Appelt, with an optional live Q&A after the 30 minute presentation concludes.
