Closing the Colloquium's winter season, History Professor Dr. Stephen Davies offers a timely reminder of the people, lives, and loves lost during Canada's involvement in the First World War in his lecture, "In Their Words Remembrance, Correspondence and the Canadian Soldier in the First World War."
Dr. Davies asks his audience to consider whom we are remembering this Remembrance Day. When we look at the cenotaph covered in names, who are the individuals -- the sons, daughters, husband, wives, fathers and mothers -- who held these names, the pens, these bombed positions?
Through the Canadian Letters and Images Project (CLIP), a vital database containing over 35,000 documents, Dr. Davies endeavors to transform the invisible people behind the Cenotaph's names back into visible faces, lives, and personas.
We hope you will join us on Nov. 19, 11:30-1:00pm, in Malaspina Theatre to hear from those whom we remember in gratitude every Remembrance Day.
Tea/coffee, conversation will follow the 45-min lecture. No tickets or reservations are needed; entry is free to all.
